PERRY BATESON NWJJA BLACK BELT - HEAD Instructor & Owner
Perry Bateson has been studying Martial Arts for over 35 years and has owned and operated his school since 1994. His two schools are Bateson's Martial Arts (Tae Kwon Do) and Northwest Jiu Jitsu Academy. Mr. Bateson holds black belts in Tae Kwon Do, Gung Fu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has studied self defence and fitness extensively, and has several designations in behaviour development and teaching individuals with unique abilities. He is also a certified instructor of conflict resolution.
Professor Perry has studied Jiu Jitsu on and off since 2000 and began seriously training in 2008, eventually receiving his black belt in January 2017. He teaches a curriculum based program designed by 4th degree black belt Professor Brian Johnson. He also competes regularly on the national and international stage. Some of his accomplishments include Pan Ams silver at black belt, Worlds Master's silver as purple and black belt and gold at brown and black belt.
kEVIN VAN VEEN NWJJA BROWN BELT - HEAD INSTRUCTOR & OWNER
Kevin van Veen has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2008 and holds a brown belt under Professor Brian J. Johnson. He has been authorized to teach Professor Johnson's world class curriculum under the Northwest Jiu Jitsu flag at the beautiful Fremont Martial Arts Training Center in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.
Kevin has 20 years of martial arts experience and holds multiple black belts in striking disciplines. He has a firm grasp of the self defense principles offered from both ends of the martial arts spectrum and has an extensive background in teaching children and adults in both traditional martial arts and conflict resolution.
